Iconica's True Design-Build Yields LEED Gold for WPPI Energy
22 July, 2010
WPPI Energys office and operations facility achieved Gold certification through the U.S. Green Building Councils Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system as a result of concentrated efforts by Iconica on both the design and construction aspects of the recently completed project. The building is the first LEED Gold certified building in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.<\p>
To earn LEED Gold certification, WPPI Energys office and operations facility met high standards for energy efficiency, conservation and sustainable design. The decision was made early on to add to their existing building and remodel to not only meet LEED specifications but avoid the environmental impact associated with vacating one facility in order to build an entirely new one. The building incorporates several green technologies, including reused and recycled content building materials, day lighting, a geothermal heating and cooling system, controllable lighting systems and more. A video highlighting the green features and energy-efficient technologies that make the building highly sustainable can be viewed by visiting www.wppienergy.org/building.<\p>
WPPI Energy selected Iconica to design and build the $7.3 million building expansion and remodel project. Working together from project conception, Iconicas architects and construction project managers were able to meet the operational needs of the client, design within budget and complete the 49,705 square-foot Gold certified facility in early 2010.<\p>
